New email address for fundraisers only

Hi, guys!

So, if you want to mail your donation to Old Friends (http://www.oldfriendsequine.org/), send me an email at burkhartfundraisers AT gmail DOT com. I will give you a KY address instead of my NYC publisher’s address so the donation will get to me faster. I’m hoping to present Old Friends with our check in January and then take you guys via video to meet our adopted horses!

**Any emails unrelated to fundraising will be deleted and the addresses blocked.

Thank you, Harts, and Happy Holidays!! 🙂 ❤ ❤

Want to have lunch with me?

So . . . next week, I’ve got a Canterwood Hart and her mom coming to meet me for lunch in my new city! As a thank you, they are giving me a donation for OLD FRIENDS. I thought I’d open up the invitation to anyone who wants to meet me for some food at Rima’s Diner in Covington, KY (5 seconds from Cincy)! You must have an adult email me (jess_burkhart AT gmail DOT com, Tweet me for info, or IG me for my private email address. Then, we’ll talk about a date and time. I’ll meet YOU and a parent for lunch and all I need is for you to bring a donation for OLD FRIENDS.

Looking for MidSouth/Kentucky/Ohio/TN writer conferences who need speakers

Happy weekend!

I’m working on Shiny Secret Tween Proposal for Agent Jenn and looking for writing conferences that need speakers or workshop leaders in 2015. So far, I’ve found some great ones! I’m new to Kentucky and am specifically looking for Southern writing conferences and workshops in Kentucky, Ohio, or Tennessee. I’m a Nashville native and I haven’t done much in the Southern market, so I’m excited to branch into a new area!

Of course, if you’re on the West Coast or East Coast and I can reach you by plane, I’m so there if the timing is right.

I’m an SCBWI member, a BEA panelist, and a workshop leader in MO and OK. Please shoot me an email if you’re an event coordinator and you want to discuss a possible opportunity. 🙂 Thank you!

First review of WILD HEARTS AND 25% off Amazon purchase!

The lovely Christine at the Bridgewater Public Library posted a very kind review of WILD HEARTS on the library’s Facebook page. I’m reposting it below. Thank you so, so much, Christine! ❤

Looking for a book for teens who love horses?

Check out Jessica Burkhart’s Wild Hearts, coming to stores in May! Brie Carter doesn’t think she fits in anywhere. Homeschooled and constantly moving due to her dad’s job, she also works for him at his land developing business. Her mother wishes she would get involved in something, like photography. Arriving in Lost Spring, Wyoming, her family is met with protests over the development, which would disrupt the local wild mustang population. Among the protesters is Logan, whose love of the horses is so strong, he’s willing to do anything to save them. Brie begins to hang out with Logan and see his side of things…too bad her father doesn’t feel the same way. Nor does he know that she is hanging out with the enemy and his father, who is leading the protests. Together with new friend Amy, Logan and Brie work together to save the mustangs.

This book is a good young adult choice for those who are interested in horses and looking for a romance book. That being said, this book is mostly parent friendly- Brie does sneak out of the house and go camping with Logan, but there is no sex or drugs. The story revolves around Brie’s growing friendship with Logan and Amy, and the attempt to save the mustangs of Lost Spring. You can tell the author did her research on wild mustangs before writing this book. Good pick for those looking to get into teen books without the teen drama.

WILD HEARTS is available NOW for pre-order in paperback and hardcover! 🙂 It releases May 5, 2015.
